can't think of a title

Yay it's the weekend again! Past few days have been reasonably eventful, so I thought I'd mention them here before they get lost in my brain...

So what's been happening in my life? Scarily, lectures have started; even more scarily, I went to some of them - even stayed awake during them too... And I'm still beating Toby every morning at the waking up competition :)

Emmy had 21st birthday on Thursday and invited people to have lunch at Clowns which was very nice, an opportunity for UCPOites to meet Newnham people too :) We all got very jealous of her presents! We then went to sit on Christ's Pieces because it was sunny, where I had fun being childish and decorating Phil's hair with grass :-D Later in the evening we had a huge cinema trip to see Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, with 32 people! thanks to Jen's organisation :) Since I never read the original book I did get somewhat confused (tends to happen with any film though...), but it was very fun nevertheless!

Pretty average day on Friday, until the evening, when I was invited to watch anime with random people from Tithall I've never met before. Worried about getting murdered I dragged Toby along for protection... They were lovely people though, and we had fun 5 hours watching episodes from Excel Saga, Samurai Champloo, Fullmetal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop and something I can't remember the name of... Excel Saga actually made me laugh out loud constantly so I'll definitely try to get hold of some episodes myself :) We were also treated to excessive amount of sugar, but can't really complain about that :)

Not much happened today... I started writing this at noon and it's taken 10 hours... (admittedly I did have an extended break after the first sentence...)

If you are bored, try the "guess-the-google" game. Time for me to watch more Fullmetal Alchemist! goodnight...

sunny day

Another unproductive day, all thanks to Hane's post which reminded me how sunny it was outside so I decided to eat ice cream instead (in sensible quantity this time :)

Did manage to wake up shortly after 6am somehow (I think I may be taking the "who can get up first" competition with Toby too seriously, that I just automatically get up before 8am without any form of aid, regardless of what time I went to bed - been like this for a week now)... Not quite sure what happened between then and lunchtime apart from a trip to Sainsburys, where I bought ice cream and some other random stuff (bread, milk, juice, etc.. the boring stuff). Lunch was particularly healthy, with lots of carrots, rather than 4 fried eggs...

At some point in the afternoon I may have mentioned to people that I was going to shower, and apparently I was in there for 4 hours... I think I'm quite clean now...

Also had first UCPO rehearsal of the term, which was very much fun, with plenty of tea, coffee, biscuits, beer, and possibly some playing too... Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain and Dvorak's Symphony No. 4/8 (on the part it has 4 printed, crossed out, and 8 written in...) were what we rehearsed, although apparently there's also a bizarre, horrible percussion concerto where everyone is instructed to randomly improvise for 30 mins while the soloist shows off her vast number of arms...

Today also saw the world premiere of the new reality show "Fan and the Badger", although it's quite dull so I won't tell you about it...

Oh I do remember what happened between 6am and lunchtime - I was wrestling with javascript. It was long but I won in the end... :-)

Random link of the day, especially relevant to those learning to drive - anyone else apart from Helen? :-)

I'd better go to bed, don't want to miss Distrubed Systems lecture in the morning...

I don't like term time

Hmm, haven't blogged for the last 3 days - the more observant of you may have realised that Cambridge term has started... But the last few days have been mostly fun, with friends all coming back to Cambridge I'm getting used to seeing real people again :)

Saturay saw the return of the Jameses, and the arrival of Hane's cool t-shirt which he got me to buy from ebay. I'm sure something else happened but I really can't remember now... (this is what happens when I don't blog everyday...)

More people returned on Sunday, I choked on on fizzy drink, Oliver Toby and I played "hide the towel" and found make-up behind Toby's fridge in the process... I also fell asleep a lot during the day (which also resulted in me missing a little gathering with friends in the evening :-s) exciting weekend isn't it...

More moderately uninteresting things happened yesterday, I took on the challenge to get rid of all spyware on Hane's laptop but failed, so we decided to reinstall Windows in the end, something I've done at least 30 times in the past... Note how I've been avoiding the subject of my dissertation all the time - no one shall find out how much of it I've done :-D

I would write about what happened today but I've just changed my mind, for no particular reason, hehe.

random abrupt end (inspiration from Helen :p)

burger and cheese

Right, too many random comments about cheese in the previous post so I feel I should post again. Apologies for the lack of post yesterday, mainly due to the fact that nothing actually happened - that's right, NOTHING...

Didn't sleep well at all last night so most of today was spent fighting off the temptation to go near my bed... went food shopping with Oliver early morning (before 9am!) and came back with lots of burgers and buns which were all on buy 1 get 1 free, which we managed to demolish in two batches (that's 2 burgers each for brunch and 2 for dinner!) :-) Also, some of you will be glad to hear that I got more cheese, Somerset brie this time, which I'm about to start eating now...

My body started to give up around lunch time, which wasn't brilliant considering I had a telephone interview with Fidelity at 2.30pm... but I did manage to stay awake and not talk total non-sense, so hopefully I'll get through to next round at least before getting rejected...

Sudden change of topic... I'm really starting to dislike the kitchen on my corridor, mainly because people from other corridors keep coming to use it and not bother with washing up (or even worse, put greasy stuff straight back in the draws...) Might consider setting up traps to burn their fingers or something... Muahahahaha!!!

Anyway, I should go to bed before I bore you all to death or leak something important from my secret plan to take over the world...

More bizarre games

OK, I have posted some bizarre games in the past few days: Chasm is weird but still excellent puzzle; most people couldn't even understand Grow. But here's one that's even more strange!

Levers - Bizarre object-balancer.

While on the subject of games, my Progress Quest [1] character is doing pretty well at the moment - Level 58 Cyber Monk, wielding +48 Serrated Polished Pole-adze, Act XIII in the plot, best spell is level CLXXIV Hastiness, and currently on a quest to "Placate the Porn Elementals". I recommend this to anyone who wants to play a RPG but is unwilling to spend 15+ hours on it every day... :-)

Some exciting news: I bought cheese today! French brie, to be more specific, huzzah!

Yes, that's how 'exciting' my life is these days... think I'll go to bed now...

[1] Progress Quest belongs to a new breed of "fire and forget" RPG's. There is no need to interact with Progress Quest at all; it will make progress with you or without you.

bored...

It's been a fairly boring day for me, spent most of it either thinking about moving back to my room in New Garden, or actually doing it. Can't remember anything else exciting, so I'll just randomly post one of my photos instead...

Back to hell

Well, after a relaxing weekend at home I'm back in Cambridge again, with dissertation deadline and finals all coming up soon and only one week of holiday left, I imagine suffering is probably inevitable...

Weekend was fairly good, nice break from work (not that I was doing much here...). I was reminded what vegetables were, and what a TV looked like; my cat still wants to kill me; I had a quick go at driving again but realised that I had forgotten how to turn the engine on...; I went out to Greenwich and Blackheath to take nice photos but the sun was too bright; I also found an album of my old photos (from up to 20 years ago!) and transferred some into my camera - with any luck they may appear on a website sometime before I graduate, and if you are really lucky I might even tell you where the website is... :-)

In other news, I've just gathered the Atom feed of all your blogs into Feedreader so I can be notified of new posts without having to check everyone's page every 10 mins, isn't that exciting?! But do feel free to ignore this paragraph if you have no idea what I just said...

I've noticed more comments from new people in the older posts. Great stuff! Keep them coming :-)

And now I'm out of stuff to say... didn't even find any new links today so I'll just have to recycle an old one, but hopefully most of you haven't seen this already :-)

Grow - experiment dragging things to the centre in various orders to see how they affect each other, it's possible to level everything up to max at the end and get top score of 20000, which I did manage after some considerable effort...

Weekend

Arghh this is so scary - it's the weekend again and the week hasn't been nearly as productive as it should have been... again... term is starting in ten days and I really need to have done significant part of the dissertation by then...

Not much actually happened to me today ...

Moving on to other news:

1. Two more friends (Mike and James) have joined the world of blogging, how exciting! Go visit their blogs. :)

2. I'm going to be in London seeing parents for the weekend, so no updates for the next two days, unfortunately...

3. Chasm, a wonderful Flash puzzle adventure game, was in George's comment yesterday, and it really deserves to be mentioned again! It's not easy, but I did manage it in the end so it can't be that bad... :-)

4. Gmail - everyone's probably got an account by now, but if you haven't and want one, I still have plenty of invites left, so let me know :-)

5. Amusing plot summary for LoTR: "Little guys go to a lot of trouble to get rid of stolen jewellery".

6. The story from yesterday may or may not be entirely true...

Next post in 3 days, and enjoy not getting terrorised by me on MSN while I'm away :p

blank space...

News of the day: according to a recent scientific study by Dr Hane, my life is not ruled by my parents, not by HSBC, not by the university, not by Bill Gates, not even myself, but MSN (Mesitalic Scroptoniam Neuremen) Messenger. The shocking revelation was published this morning as we learnt that MSN Messenger actually controls every single aspect of my life, down to even the smallest things such as drinking coffee or haircut. "It is yet unknown what exact mechanism is used for such level of control but the research is still in its early days", says Dr Hane, who leads a team of specialists from University of Cantabrigien. The question most of us is concerned about now is whether this was just an isolated case, or does it signify the beginning of a large scale elimination of human independence across the globe? We will keep you updated with the latest progress from Dr Hane and his team. In the mean time, if you know someone suffering the same condition, please get in touch with us immediately.

In other news, Toby and I avoided working on dissertation for an entire day by working on a program to analyse the vast quantity of MSN event logs on my computer in order to produce some usage patterns (I know we gave up yesterday, but today is not yesterday). The good news is that we more or less succeeded (Toby is a God, we should all worship him); the bad news is that I now have scary stats about MSN usage patterns for all of you, muahahahaha!

That's all we have time for today, good night.

P.S. I'm not /that/ evil - due to the confidential (?) nature of the analysis results they shall never be made avaiable to the public, so your sleeping pattern will be safe in my hands... :-)

Normal day!

Wow, I've just had a really normal day for the first time in ages! got up before 9am (despite bad sleep but never mind that!), had all three meals, all at the right time too, and I was awake to see over 80% of the daylight!

Anyway, that doesn't actually mean I had a productive day, quite the opposite actually... helped several people with computer problems, spent hours with Toby trying to come up with a program to analyse my msn logs to produce usage patterns and failing, found out that Helen's friend's friend is friend with two of my friends... and had an inane conversation with George - he's a little mad I think...

Other news of the day: Yes Prime Minister is hilarious :-)

Voting time

OK, here are two of my photos of more or less the same scene, first one taken last summer, second one only a week ago. I can't decide which is better, what do people think?

I need more pennies

Another short post, as my life is still dull and I'm too tired to pretend otherwise considering the last time I was asleep was over 24 hours ago... Highlight of the day include having lunch in Trinity, realising that Robert Sayle has relocated to the Grafton Centre, buying new shirt and shoes, and finding out about Toby's blog. :-)

Now for links of the day...

1. Ever wondered what you could do with all your pennies?

2. Out of ideas for new wild parties?

Enjoy :-)

I like funny stuff

Really nothing to say about myself today - my life really is that boring you see... But here's your daily fix of amusing links, thanks to Albino Blacksheep :-)

1. Numa Numa - I don't think this one is in English...

2. When rabbit falls in love with cat - not English either...

3. She Blocked Me

All Flash videos I'm afraid, so apologies to dial-up people...

Sunset

Another photo of pretty sky for you, considering it's soooo dull outside right now... This was taken while I was on the train from Cambridge to London few weeks back, enjoy! :-)

Oh, and in case you haven't realised, I do actually like photography, especially enjoy taking photos of colourful skies, cute animals and drunk friends... :-) Posted by Hello

Strange Weather

Very strange weather indeed, it's April but we had snow again! how random! and it's freezing cold outside too, I cycled around to deliver few CDs to people and could barely move my hands by the end...

MSN Messenger 7 is finally released, and it actually works too, until it stopped working that is... nothing major really, it just suddenly decided not to deliver any of my messages for a while, but it's all good now, so it appears at least. But anyway, the new features are very exciting, especially the winks, nudge, and handwritting! You should all go get it so I can nudge you :)

Glad to see the number of comments growing here, it's making me feel popular, yay! :) I've also managed to introduce Oliver to the world or blogging: Playing Politics is the place to visit.

Hmm, nothing else really exciting happened today I guess, just the old stuff I do everyday - fell asleep few times, forgot to eat anything, making slow progress on work, etc... Think that's pretty much been my daily schedule for the past week... and arghhhh it's the weekend again, what happened to this week?!?!

One last news - my website is now the first result to come up when searching for "randomfan" in google! exciting isn't it?? :)

And I shall leave you all with a random link, provided by Tom:

Only YOU have the power to Save Toby

Goodnight :)

How steady are your hands?

Hmm, nothing exciting happening in my life really, except that I ate way too much ice cream last night (really seemed a good idea at the time!) and as a result my body really suffered pretty much all night... but I'm sure you don't want to read about the details... :-)

Anyway, here's a little game to keep you all entertained (or frustrated, in my case!). Very simple really, just have to move a little dot around the screen from start to end avoiding things that you have to avoid, but I really do have trouble with it...

Enjoy the sun! (if you are in Cambridge)

Red Cloud!

Just trying to post photos from Picasa - isn't it impressive that Picasa, Hello and Blogger all just work togather!?

This is one of my favourite cloud photos, taken in November 2004 :-) Posted by Hello

The Beginning...

Wow, isn't this exciting, I have a blog too! It seems that everyone I know has one, so why not me, I thought...

Well, nothing interesting here yet, and it is close to exams, not sure how frequently I'll find time to post... But do come back often, will try my best to keep you all entertained! :)
