Chocolate & Graduation

Apologies for the lack of blogging for the past week, I was of course being lazy again, but I did actually have an excuse for once! - I moved my entire website from the SRCF to SiteHQ, considering that I'm about to graduate and won't be able to use the free service from SRCF anymore. However one of the Cambridge DNS servers refused to accept the nameserver change for my domain name hence caused inconsistency in the DNS records and much confusion for me. But anyway, it's all sorted now so everyone's happy :-)

Aaanyway... feel free to ignore that last paragraph if you have no idea what I was talking about...

Some of you may remember an earlier post about ferrero rocher, and the promise that I'd make a pyramid. A reminder of what I had:

Well, it finally happened on Monday! I had 92 of them and 84 was needed to make a 7 level triangular based pyramid. James came round to help, so we got started straight away, getting the bottom two level easily, which used 49 ferrero rochers:

At this point we decided that the pyramid wasn't going to stay up on its own, so the empty boxes were used to hold the base in shape. Adding another 15:

Another 10 on top for the bottom 4 levels:

Level 5:

Unfortumate the whole thing started falling apart - I blame James... We changed plan few times before deciding to go back to the original plan, but with just me doing it. And we managed to reach level 6, with just the top left to be put on!

Behold, the complete pyramid, made from 84 ferrero rochers!

Well, the obvious thing to do (apart from eat) was to see if the pyramid would still stand without the boxes, so we investigated, and this happened...

Ah well, it all just ended up being a huge pile of chocolate on my floor for eating, can't complain about that! :-) Unfortunately the last 30 or so were stolen by Oliver yesterday... grrrr! :-p

And now, graduation! Well, a sneak preview of, since the real thing isn't until tomorrow. But we did all get to dress up in the proper gear for graduation photo and rehearsal for ceremony. We also had a fabulous graduation dinner in the great hall, with all the parents, which felt slightly strange...

The graduation dress is rather exciting, however everyone got rather confused about the BA hood...

...so obviously we decided to be silly instead :-)

Right, I guess I should sleep now, really don't want to be late for the graduation ceremony... Will blog about the whole thing sometime in the near future, however there'll probably be fewer photos due to the fact that I'll be back on 56k dial-up internet... I'm sooooooo going to miss the superfast 100Mbps connection here... :'(

colourful

Photo of sunset, taken on Sunday evening while I was on the train back from London. Oh that was a fun day, cycling 15 miles in the morning in order to take bike home despite the train companies being crap, and lazing under a tree in Dulwich Park with Helen for most of the afternoon :-)

Hmm, I have a technical telephone interview with Bloomberg in 10 minutes, scary... Posted by Hello

random photos

Hmm, can't be bothered to write much, so I'll just show you some random photos of things happened in the past two weeks :-)

4th June, Toby's surprise birthday cake:

9th June, this is what happens when you put more than 3 drunk compscis who had just finished finals in the same place...

10th June, Toby's hair turned ginger/blonde for the day...

13th June, Geese! (was in punt with Helen, Toby, Hane, Sam & James)

16th June, UCPO post concert party, Pedro looking very happy... possibly Tom on the ground...

17th June, Fandango, supporting Reel Big Fish, VERY loud!

17th June, and the star of the evening, Reel Big Fish (my favourite band, in case you didn't know!)

18th June, UCPO Garden Party, I was only there for the beginning, sort of abandoned it when I came back to my room half way and fell asleep because it was too hot...

Tomorrow will be rather fun - I've got to take my bike home on the train but it appears that there's engineering work going on everywhere... so current journey plan is: 1. cycling from Cambridge to Royston (13 miles); 2. WAGN train to King's Cross; 3. Thameslink train to Blackfriars; 4, district line to Whitechapel; 5, east london line to New Cross; 6, cycle home... Never cycled in London, should be fun experience :-)

Will be getting hair cut at home, then off to Dulwich to see Helen for few hours before getting back to Cambridge for part of King's Fun Day, which will be, erm... FUN! Yay for being allowed on back lawn and free BBQ! This was last year's fun day:

Lots of music stuff happening on Monday, rehearsing for 5 hours or something silly... then a concert in King's Chapel, followed by complimentary strawberries and champagne on the back lawn, woo! :-)

Anyway, my bed is calling my name, it would be rude to ignore... *disappears*

stuff and things

"stuff" and "things" - aren't they great words? :-)

Anyway, it's been a while since I blogged properly, perhaps I should do an update on my boring life...

Last week was mostly occupied by my finals, 3 three-hour exams on 3 consecutive afternoons, last one being Thursday. Well, I'm really not sure how they went, but the important thing is that my degree has finished!!! I can now have some fun and not worry about results until the 24th :-)

Thursday evening was spent drinking on 'beer island' with compscis and some other random friends to celebrate the end of exams, for some reason I didn't get very drunk at all but all my friends did, which was highly amusing for me! Came back around midnight and stayed on MSN until ridiculous hour in the morning...

Don't think much happened on Friday, was tired for most of the day due to lack of sleep, watched all the new TV stuff I had downloaded but not watched because of exams, did laundry, went shopping, had dinner, i.e. all the boring stuff... Was planning on sleeping early but wasn't tired anymore after midnight, Emmy was bored and randomly came round to watch Family Guy at 2am so obviously I slept late again.

Spent the weekend back home with parents, where I ate far far too much again! It was nice to relax, catch up on sleep and eat properly (well, excessive is better than nothing...) again :-) We got bored on Sunday and drove to Orpington for fun, without a proper map... But with my excellent sense of direction we didn't get lost at all, so it was all good fun :-)

Returned to camland with Helen Monday morning - for anyone who doesn't know yet, the wedding stuff was NOT serious... however we are now going out :-) So yes, for the past two days I've been entertaining Helen, I even punted for the first time ever!

Anyway, lots of stuff happening in the next few days: going to see Reel Big Fish with Helen, watching Excel Saga and Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien with Toby, UCPO and King's May Week Concerts, rehearsals for them, post concert parties, several garden parties, King's fun day on Sunday, as well as other stuff I can't think of right now... :-)

And in the more distant future, I have a temporary summer job, back at EGS where I worked two years ago, so I'll have a reasonable level of income while looking for a more permanent job, woo! :-)

Anyway, this post has taken far too long to write - I actually started it last Friday... I think I've forgotten how to blog... I'm going to disappear and have lunch now...

P.S. still haven't got round to make the ferrero rocher pyramid yet...
